Many people have many different goals and dreams. Well, in my country, people travel a lot to visit the temples. Some go there to ask forgiveness, some for fulfilling their wishes, some for vacation and some for fun and exploration. It's always the people who try to reach the god, but sometimes there might be a time when the opposite and unexpected happens. Yes, sometimes the god visits his devotees unexpectedly. Those guys are either very holy and spiritual persons or some great siddhars and maharishis who hardly mingle in this society of ours. But the spiritual persons which i'm talking about are people like Swami Vivekananda, Bhagwan Sri Ramana Maharishi, Sri Ramakrishna Paramahansa, Sri Kanchi Periyavar. These people were great people with mind far exceeding than any other ordinary human being. But they didn't perform any magic and miracle like those fraud saints and swamis that fool around now a days. They preached people to lead a better life in this present spoiled and corrupted world. They were the enlightened ones who tried to make this world a better place.

Sri Kanchi Periyavar with the Kunjithapaadam on his head.

Now i'm going to tell an incident that happened with the Kanchi Periyavar. He was the 68th Jagadguru in the Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam. Many of you know about him a lot more than me and for those who don't know, please google it and you will be shocked to know the life and history of this great man. So, this happened a year before he attained mukti.

He was at the age of 98 or near so, and he was very weak at that time as the old age took it's toll on him. One evening, he was meditating as usual and then suddenly he called for his disciples. He expressed his wish to go to Chidambaram to visit Thillai Nataraja Temple. He wanted to touch and get the blessings from the Lord Nataraja's Kunjithapaatham. Kunjithapaadam is an item made of various roots from the various rare medicinal herbs. It is used in the everyday pooja for the Lord Nataraja and is worn on his feet. There is a saying that looking at it alone can give oneself moksha. And if touched, it can cure and relieve oneself from many types of diseases. Sri Kanchi Periyavar wanted to touch and pray it as his last wish before his mukti.

Now, he expressed his wish but the disciples were all confused and worried as it was nearly impossible for them to bring Periyavar to Chidambaram. He was very old and weak and he could hardly travel. And in those days, in 1991,92, there were not a lot of facilities to travel peacefully as it is today. They were planning to arrange a car but the roads were not good and travelling from Kanchipuram to Chidambaram was a lot of distance. This could make things worse for the Periyavar. All the disciples were discussing on how to fulfill his wish without giving much pain and trouble to his body. Periyavar went and slept in his room without asking more from his disciples as he too knew the difficulties and problems that could arise in his wish. The whole night passed by.

Next day, early morning, dikshitars from the Chidambaram Nataraja temple came to visit Periyavar to offer him prasadam and Kunjithapaadam. All the disciples were totally shocked and had no idea what was actually going on. Periyavar saw the dikshitars and welcomed them inside with great respect. [For people who don't know who dikshitars are. They are a special class of vaidika brahmins who perform daily rituals in the Chidambaram temple.] They presented him with the Kunjithapaadam that he wished for. No one told anything about kunjithapaadam to those dikshitars but they bought it for Periyavar's sake as per his wish. When asked about why did they bring it, they gave no proper reason and said it was just their wish to bring it to him. Periyavar gladly accepted the gift and kept on his head as a blessing from Lord Shiva himself.

Periyavar just thought and wished about it and Lord Nataraja fulfilled his wish by going to the devotee instead of the devotee going to him. When i read this article i too was shocked at the immense grace Periyavar had. Now that is the true bond, love and devotion between a person and his god. Look at the picture, the kunjithapaadam is on his head.

Well, that depends on each and every person's thinking and respect to that god but i believe i should build one. And i know, i'm not in a situation and condition to build one right now. But in future, in another 15-20 years or so, i'm sure i will build one temple at least in my life.

Well, where was i? Yaaa... I had a dream today morning, early morning. It was a beautiful and interesting dream. I was running with someone, i can't remember who it was, whether that someone was a male or female. I can't remember anything about my partner in the dream. We were just two of us and kept running until we reached a room. This room had three walls on each side and on the fourth side there was no wall or any door or window. We just entered it and we were shocked to see that the walls were kind of black, like Tamil Nadu temples' walls. It was all dark and black but that room was small. A room that could fit just five to six persons at a time. We were looking straight at the wall in front of us trying to find something. Then suddenly, there was water. I didn't realize that there was a pipe next to me on the left hand side. The water started coming out like a fountain but a little slower one.The water was making the wall on the left side wet and we could see something very distinctively. First, it looked like the water was washing away something from the wall. Then i saw a beautiful design on the wall starting to appear slowly.

This is what i saw on that wall. But it's not perfect

Then within few seconds, the whole image was clearly visible now. It was an image of Mother Mariamman. It was a white chalk outline sketch on the black wall. It looked like white chalk sketch but it was clearer than the normal. I was shocked as well as happy and then showed it to my partner. He/She congratulated me for finding it and said,"This is it. She's here. You must build the temple for her right here. Look for the east and start building." I searched my pockets and took out my phone. I had compass application in my android. Found east , using the compass. But Mother Mariamman was facing south. I told my partner that the god was facing south and we had to change the direction to the east. But when i looked back to find that person, my partner, he/she was gone. Disappeared. I was left there alone with the Mother and a task to build a temple. I was confused an worried. How could i build it alone without anyone's help. I kept staring at the Mother for a long time and then suddenly i woke up.

It was over. The dream was a dream and i came back to reality. It was 7.30 am. I was happy that i saw god in my dream but a little sad too that i could not build a temple in the same dream.

I don't know what this means but if anyone knows the meaning of all this, please explain it to me. I will be waiting for the answer. And if anyone had a dream which was a little interesting, please do share it. I have had many dreams like this where i have been to unknown and unseen temples and seen gods. If possible, i will share all of them with you guys later. But till then , have a nice dream.

Sri Swarna Akarshana Bhairavar

Well, that's what i should say when i think a lot on what happened yesterday. Bhairavar directed me to the truth i was asking about a lot and was confused about it too. From the time i have realized god, i have been asking myself many questions. What is god? Who is god? And after passing some time by reading books and trying to find out the answer, i'm struck with another difficult question. Probably the most difficult one, for which the great siddhars, rishis and yogis are still finding an answer. "Who Am I?" Yes, that's the most difficult one. And i started asking this question to myself after reading about Sri Ramana Maharishi. He was a great siddhar. Now, when they couldn't answer that question, how could I?

Reading more books on siddhars and spiritual teachings confused me more. But after few days, the answers were becoming clear to me. I was getting the answers one by one but a little slower. Day before yesterday, I was sitting in my room with my eyes closed and asking god to show me the path to truth. I know that all this is just an external energy but i wanted to feel the inner energy. Everybody has it but hardly anyone realizes or feels it. And i wanted to feel it. I just asked him, "If you really want me to come to you then at least show me the way. Then i will struggle and struggle to reach your door, no matter at what cost. Clear my mind and heart." That's all i asked him. I am a Hindu and i pray all gods and i'm an ardent devotee of Lord Shiva. So i asked him this question. Next day, he showed me the way. He just indirectly helped me. I was shocked to realize that he did actually answer me. But in a very subtle way.

Yesterday was Mattu Pongal for us. I am a tamilzhan and i am proud of it. In north, they celebrate as Makar Shankranti. So, my dad was at home, we did all the pooja and rituals to be performed on that day. After everything was over, we were just sitting and chatting with each other. Then my dad got a phone call. It was my dad's very distant friend. He hardly calls up. But on that day particularly, he called up, reminding us that it was Theipirai Ashtami on that day and there was a special yagya and meeting conducted for Sri Swarna Akarshana Bhairava at some place. He invited us to attend that pooja. We were all happy to attend that pooja. After reaching that venue, i was totally amazed to see that a person was preaching about life, god, and the ways to lead a happy life. He was a very kind, knowledgeable and wise man from Thavasi Mallai. He answered many of my unasked doubts which i kept building inside me without even asking him. I was relieved to have attended that pooja as i was able to attend this gathering too. Let me tell a few of the questions and answers that were asked and answered there. Here it is......

[Que.] "We read Kanda Sashti Kavacham for getting rid of all pains and fears. Can Lord Murugan really save anyone in real like described in the Kavacham?"

[Ans.] "Now, the question is not about the Kavacham. The real question is "Will Lord Murugan Save You?" or "Will The Faith In Lord Murugan Save You?" Ask this question to yourself. It is not about just the Lord Murugan. It is about all the gods. Will the God really come down to earth with four hands, a decorated diadem, and a Vel to protect you? No. Please don't be in the illusion like that. The faith in god will help and save you. That faith is the most important thing. When you have faith in the god anything is possible. Now a days people are very smart and they cannot be cheated so easily, especially in the cities and towns. People in villages are still getting fooled. Now, if a person comes with a huge tail and a big mace carrying over his shoulder and has a monkey face, and he says that he is Lord Hanuman. Will you believe him or not? People will laugh at him and ask him, what drama party is he coming from? People will not believe him at any given cost. So understand that god will not come directly to save you but indirectly he saves you every minute without your own knowledge. Now let me tell a short story about having faith in god and believing god...

There was a man who was a devotee of Lord Shiva. He prayed everyday with full concentration and without deviating from the path of bhakti. Now he believed that there is Lord Shiva and he resides at Kailash and has four hands and snakes and ash all over his body with a third eye and all the things that described Shiva in the scriptures. He just believed it completely and blindly. One day, there was a flood in his village. Everybody started evacuating the village. Everyone except that man. He stayed in his house and said that Shiva will come and save him and he didn't need other's help. The flood was nearing the village, and a man with the motorbike came to rescue him but he denied his help saying Shiva will save him. After sometime, the water started flooding the village and that man started to climb a tree. Then came a boat for his rescue and still he denied his help. Then after sometime, the water over flooded, the tree broke in half and though he could swim he couldn't fight the force of the water and he drowned and died. Now, because he did pray Shiva so much, he was given a chance to meet Shiva before being reborn. When he met Lord Shiva, he was totally dejected and asked him crying,"Why didn't you come to save me? I believed in you so much but you didn't care to help me and let me die." Lord Shiva smiled at him and said,"Son, you are so ignorant and a fool. I didn't care to help you? You must have evacuated with the others in the first place. That was common sense but you didn't go with them. But as i cared for you, i sent you a man with the motorbike and a man with the boat to help you. Do you think they would be present even after everyone evacuated the village? I sent them just for you but you denied MY help and when someone denies my help, this is what happens." The man realized his mistakes and asked Lord Shiva for forgiveness and he as ever the most kind hearted forgave him.

Now this shows that believing in god alone wil not help you but you must have faith in him. It's the same with Kanda Sashti Kavacham. Reading it alone will not help you but you must have faith in Lord Murugan and he will definitively help in some way or the other. "

Now I asked Lord Shiva for guidance and he helped me by sending a distant friend of my dad's to call us to attend the pooja of Sri Swarna Akarshana Bhairavar and by this i got to attend the gathering and clear my few doubts. I always had the same thought of god coming to save us directly but then i realized that he saves us definitively but in an indirect way. This is just one question answered. There are many more nice teachings which i will post later. Hope, we change the notion of "believing in god "to "having faith in god."
Let's say, from the time i realized that something or someone is there, overpowering me in all the ways and that someone or something is trying to wake me up from my dream and realize the truth, from that time i have been filled with uncountable questions. Answers? Nope, i didn't get them neither quickly nor easily. Just trying to find it. And that quest of mine has led me to many a places and situations where i would never have thought of reaching.

I found few answers myself, some from reading books, some from experience, some from interacting with knowledgeable persons and some from the unknown and indescribable force or energy or whatever you want to call it. I call that energy God. You can call it anything. It's an independent choice. So, then, I got an opportunity to interact with a very knowledgeable and wise person yesterday. And learnt a lot. I got my few questions answered too. I would like to share it with you people so that you can wake from this dream and illusion and march towards the reality. Or for some people this will help them to lead a better life. Here it goes.....

[Que.] How to lead a life without any pain or sorrow?

[Ans.] Well, people must understand that there is no word such as sorrow. People are either very happy or a little less happy than the others. The word sorrow is a negative word and it automatically brings a human mind so down that he can hardly get up after that. So let's erase the word sorrow from the dictionary of life. This attitude of leaving negative thoughts will automatically boost up your confidence. And when there is no sorrow, that means you are less happy than the other person. Why are you less happy? Because he earns more than you, because he has a bigger house, car and bank account than you. Is it not? These trivial things can be achieved easily if you work hard a little more. And when you too earn the same house and car and salary as your competitor, are you satisfied now? Are you happy now? Yes? Then for how long? Three months? One year? Then what? A new competitor? He earns and leads a happier life than you so you compete again. You work harder to achieve that goal. And in that process you lose sight of your main goal. What is your main goal? Your family's happiness. You must love your wife, your kids, spend time with them, fulfill their needs. So you must be satisfied with what you have and maintain your family with what you have. That is a true gentleman and a perfect husband and father. He must not sacrifice his love for his pride and ego. If your friend has more than you then wish him well and congratulate him. But not envy him. Be content with what you have. So, a man with a satisfied heart will have no pain and sorrow in his life.

[Que.] You say there is no sorrow. But when a man loses everything he has, home, family, money and everything. Do you think that is not a sorrowful life? How can he live?

[Ans.] You say that he has lost everything. But what do you mean by everything? Is everything in this world permanent? Whatever he lost, let it be money, family, home, job and everything, is that all permanent? No.Nothing is permanent and everything must go for once in a lifetime. Some things come back and some cannot. The things which you mentioned, all of them can be earned back in life. But what cannot be earned back is still with you. Your "life". Then, when you have your life with you what else do you need to be worried about? God has given you both hands and legs, mind, heart, a whole functional body so that you could work and gain those lost things which once you hold off so dearly. You should learn from many handicapped people. They are the most confident people with heart and mind made of steel. They know they have lost one hand or leg but they don't lie down with their hearts filled with grief. They decide to work and live up to others with the other hand and leg. They are truly inspiring. I have seen many cases like that. So, until a man has his life with him, until he is breathing his last breath, he has not lost everything and can work harder to earn it again. And when people work harder, god gets pleased with them and gifts them more than before and this time he doesn't take back what you earned. It's all a period of time or test which everyone must undergo. If you lose hope and blame god and destroy yourself, then you are just failing the test. Rather, stand up to him, i mean god, and prove to him that you still can do what you are capable of doing. He will be pleased and when he is pleased, i don't need to tell you what happens. Read the story of the King Harishchandra. Well, it is a story of a man with truth and justice but it also explains the hardship a man has to go for passing the test of god.

For now let me stop here. I will be writing more on the Teachings of this wise person later. Hope you learnt something from this.
